Music

The goal of our music ministry is to set an atmosphere where young and old can worship the Lord together in unity of spirit. Music is "the language of the soul." Words and grammar communicate ideas. But music communicates emotions - what cannot be expressed with words. Music can convey joy, happiness, peace, love, gratitude, unity, order, and harmony. Or, it can communicate disorder, division, rebellion, hate, sensuousness, and lust. All these can be communicated in the language of music, without a single word being uttered. We believe the message that our instrumental music conveys to the soul must agree with the ideas being communicated to the mind by the lyrics. Music must nudge people towards the "fruit of the Spirit," not the "works of the flesh."

We have three biblical goals for our music:

  • Our worship must be edifying to all, and an adequate vehicle for expressing the emotions of both young and old, (1 Cor. 14:5,12,26).
  • Variety! Paul instructed the Ephesians to use "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" - a blend of three kinds of music, (Eph. 5:19).
  • Our music must be fit to be presented as a sacrificial offering to a holy God, (Hebrews 13:15)
